History of the GP14 in Australia

The GP14 has had a fascinating history in Australia, beginning in Victoria in 1960 and probably reaching it's peak membership when the World Championships were held at Mounts Bay Sailing Club, Perth in 1979. This history page is a 'work in progress' and will be added to as and when the accounts of those interesting days are uncovered and published.

Grateful acknowledgement is made specifically to Mike and Mary Igglesden for providing access to their substantial collection of memorabilia, to Dennis Gee for retaining many old records over the years and to many other long serving members such as Charles Jackson and Louis Proksch for their contributions.

"The First Five Years" is a lovingly compiled history of the GP14 Class in Western Australia from 1965 to 1970 and was penned by the late Lorna Kemp. Click on the cover image to view or download.

"Years Five to Seven" is a sequel to the above book, never printed but now available through this medium to enjoy. It covers the highly active years of 1971 and 1972.

This montage is a collection of photographs and other memorabilia from the early days. Hold the cursor over the photo to read the script.

This page is an ongoing "work-in-progress" as there is plenty more to be included!
