Welcome to the GP14 Class Association of
Australia - WA branch.
The GP 14 is both a popular family boat
and a competitive racing dinghy. Originally designed in 1949 by Jack
Holt as a “general purpose” dinghy it is a strong, stable design that
can be rigged to sail safely for family outings or with full sails,
spinnaker and trapeze for competitive racing. The use of a trapeze on
the GP14 is not standard and is a special dispensation provided to
the Australian Branch, in recognition of the consistently strong winds
in which we sail.
The GP14 Class
Association fosters club-based GP14 racing and cruising in Western
Australia and membership of the WA Branch includes membership of the
International Association.
There are two GP14
fleets operating in Western Australia, one based at Mounts Bay Sailing
Club on the Swan River (where they hosted the GP14 World Championships
in the late 1970s) and the other is a thriving and rapidly growing fleet
at Dunsborough Bay Yacht Club sailing in beautiful Geographe Bay. |
